The first step in the guide to organic gardening is to understand and learn the fundamentals very well. The first thing you should to is to decide on where you are planning to have your garden, as certain plants require plenty of sunlight and certain other plants need a mixture of sunlight and dimness as well.

If the plants you are planting require a lot of sunlight, look for an area in the garden that would at least eight hours of sunlight.

So, in short the place where you are planning to setup your garden solely depends on the plants you are planning to grow and the amount of sunlight available in that particular area. Since many plants and crops require a lot of water frequently, a water connection through a hose or sprinkler close by would become very important.

You should go from small baby steps and then start planning on big things, so do not plant more than two crops when you start gardening. The fundamental in the guide to organic gardening is to start by planting not more than two crops.

Despite the large area that you have, just use a small portion of that area to plant the crops and you will be astonished by the end of it when there will be a large produce in just about 10 square feet of that area. Do some amount of research on the crops that you can plant, and start by planting crops that do not require a lot of care.

The most vital part in the guide to organic gardening is to ready the plot for the purpose of planting. Most of the time autumn has proved to be the best time to plant the crops over winter as you can take care of the plants during this season.

Suppose you are having an idea of making your organic garden in a place that comes as a part of your lawn then you must remove the top soil using a shovel and in turn make the earth go upside down. If you plant your crops over grass, you are allowing the grass to decay in the soil thus giving out the most essential nutrients.

However, if you are planning on planting in an area with a lot of weed, you must ensure that you pluck out the entire weed along with its root and seed as there are chances of it growing back and spoiling your garden.

The last step in the guide to organic gardening includes monitoring and looking into the kind of soil in your area. When you find a complete guide to organic gardening, you will come across ways to see the kind of soil you have in your area, and the ways to make it get ready to begin planting.

You should note down that the plants require a particular kind of soil and will only grow in that particular soil. So, crops that require sandy kind of soil or loamy earthy soil will not grow on normal soil despite the care and the time you take to prepare for its plantation.

If you follow all these fundamentals in the guide to organic gardening, you can be sure you are heading the right way when it comes to gardening and you will definitely not face any problems in the future.

The common myth is that a compost bin is required to make compost; however, this is not the case really. Although many books on organic gardening advise you to use the compost bin to make compost, it is not always compulsory to do it that way. The most essential thing is that the organic gardening compost pile should gel with the soil so that all the nutrients get absorbed by the soil and the organisms of the soil mix well with the compost in order to produce very good compost.

If the pile is on a platform then all that is needed is that the soil should mix with the pile well frequently and that will be more than sufficient. Making compost is a long process. So by keeping around three to four compost piles at all the various stages of making it will make sure that you have enough of compost for your entire garden.

Organic gardening compost is made up mainly of carbon as well as nitrogen rich content. You can get the best possible outcome when the carbon content as well as the nitrogen content materials is mixed in equal proportion using the thumb rule; however, a very accurate balance is not really required.

The components rich in nitrogen include soya, manure, cotton seed meal, table scraps, as well as cut grass. The materials that are rich in carbon that can be added to the organic gardening compost include pine needles, straw, hay, as well as leaves.

You must keep in mind that the soil on top contains a lot of water and air so the compost must also contain the same things in order that it gets absorbed by the soil well.

Only when you grind all the materials together in the compost pile very well but not to make it too fine will it mix up with the soil very easily. Even if you do not have enough material and tools to grind the mixture, you need not worry as the compost that you make manually also can be used, with the difference that the soil will take a longer time to absorb the compost. Your compost should have lot moisture but not that wet that the water starts dripping out.

When the compost is getting ready all you need to look into is that its moisture content should not dry up. The temperature of the pile can rise to about 170 degree Fahrenheit; however, this is not something you need to give a lot of attention to because this is just a part of the fermenting process.

Certain books on organic gardening suggest you to have the compost pile mixed in frequent intervals to make sure that the mixture is prepared well, however, this might slow down the development of compost. Since the compost development is a natural process, you must just leave the compost pile to develop on its own and decay a well as ferment.

Gardening is a very relaxing and satisfying hobby. DIY organic gardening is a very popular form of organic gardening that does all the work without the use of costly tools, soil supplements, fertilizers, as well as plant food that makes it very cheap. Because there is no space or place constraint for an organic garden, even an apartment owner can make his/her own DIY organic garden.

Since there is no usage of any tools as such in DIY organic gardening and it only requires you to use your hands for almost .everything this is one form of gardening that will make your hands get really dirty.

When it comes to DIY organic gardening, it means less or no usage of costly gardening tools. If you are an indoor DIY organic gardener, then it makes sense for you to spend money to buy pots and a small spade. The other essential things you would need include proper soil, soil additives, food for the plant, seeds, as well as a trowel that is small in size.

You must first get the soil ready and then put it in the pot, then plant the seeds in the soil, and now your very own indoor organic garden is ready. Most of you might find it a little audacious to call this an organic garden, but as time passes by with your involvement, your garden would come up faster than you would even think.

If the gardening is going to be on a lawn or your backyards, then the DIY organic gardening will increase because your involvement will be more compared to an indoor gardening.

The things you would have to look into would be to get a proper area where there is enough sunlight as well as shade for your plants, as well as you have to see what kind of soil would suit that particular area. Compost is made up decayed organic substances such as food waste, leaves, cut grass, as well as hay.

After the process of fermentation of the compost it is added to the soil so that the soil gets the required nutrient contents. Onions, garlic, chilies, natural oils, as well as detergents are natural insecticides and pesticides that drive away harmful pests and make sure that the plant does not take in any unnatural products.

Although DIY organic gardening is a slow process, you will be satisfied by the end of it all since the plants and flowers that are grown are natural and not involving any chemical fertilizers or pesticides. For a lot of you the basic purpose of DIY organic gardening are to just plant seeds, and help the plants grow with your care.

Previously organic gardening was considered as an opposed culture of gardening where only people did it so that they could look different. Nowadays, organic gardening is a very important part of horticulture where the crops and plants that come out of it are safe and does not contain any harmful chemicals.

However, organic gardening is not new because until the mid 1880s there was no usage of chemical insecticides, pesticides, or fertilizers. Now, we realize that it is important to use natural supplements to grow our garden so that we become one with nature and get produce that are environmentally safe.

In order to recognize what organic gardening truly means we need to know the meaning of the word organic. Organic means the usage of natural supplements to grow the crops and bear the fruit out of it instead of using chemicals. In short, it means the usage of nature to make the soil more nutrient rich in which the crops grow and use only those tools that are natures in order to get very good and natural gardens.

A comparison of organic gardening to modern gardening shows that modern gardening requires destruction of plants and animals and the usage of very harmful chemicals out from factories that brings out the growth of plants unnaturally causing damage to the environment.

So the need for organic gardening is evident now. There are two ways in which organic gardening works. When you use chemical pesticides and fertilizers, you are in turn damaging all those things that actually help your garden and it also adds the chemicals in the food that we eat after getting the produce that proves to be hazardous to our health.

The second way is to use natural supplements to destroy all those diseases and insects that harm the crop.

Even though organic gardening sounds like its the best, there are certain drawbacks that have to be looked into. The fruits and vegetables come right from an organic garden are tastier than the ones that are products of chemically fertilized gardens although they do not appear to be artificial.

The crops in the organic gardening would grow slower than those grown with the help of chemicals although chemicals would spoil the soil as time passes by.

Most of you are worried and irritated about the bugs as well as insects that enter your garden especially when you are in the notion that these are the reasons for all the damages caused to your garden. However, this is not the case as it is found out that about 5% of the bugs are only damaging to your garden whereas the other insets and bugs are useful. For example butterflies help in the fertilization process.

The insects that do not actually help you out with your gardening work also are useful as they eat of the feeds and the eggs as well as larvae from the pests. All of this does not signify that you simply leave the ones that harm your garden. You need to find a way to drive them away.

Organic gardeners only look at organic gardening pest controls. However, these are not sufficient and the usage of chemical pesticides and insecticides do not make your garden an organic garden. You can use certain herbs that are natural as well as certain natural elements for the purpose of organic gardening pest control, and all of this can be prepared by you.

Organic gardening pest control sprays are a very safe alternative when compared to chemicals and it is less expensive compared to the chemicals you buy. Even though preparing such sprays is not a task at all, there are certain methods for organic gardening pest control that need to be followed.

Since the insects normally cannot tolerate any strong smells, your organic gardening pest control spray can have ingredients that are strongly scented such as onions, garlic, tobacco, and other such ingredients. Some plants and flowers have a very strong fragrance that are said to repel harmful insects.

So, the spray can also use these plants as its ingredients. Plant based soaps as well as detergents that are included in the organic gardening pest control spray can also drive away insects.

A blend of vegetable as well as mineral oils that you can prepare at home destroys insects when you spray the mixture on them as it covers their body and causes them not to breathe and destroys them. Suppose, this does not work then your organic gardening pest control spray can have a blend of chilies as well as neutral alcohol that burns these insects.

When you get some material on organic gardening, instructions will be given on how to actually make use of these organic gardening pest control sprays as well as powders.

However, remember that though these are organic gardening pest controls they can be strong and damage your garden if you use too much of it. Sometimes when these sprays are used under sunlight it burns the plants so try using them mostly in the evenings.

When you want to make a vegetable garden of your own, it is not that easy; it requires preplanning and you have to get the soil ready. So the best way to start planning is to sketch out what is needed. In any sort of organic gardening you will have to sketch out a plan before putting it into action.

Certain herbs and flowers bordering the crops and plants normally are natural insecticides and kill all the pests and insects that are a threat to your crops.

One of the flowers from the herb family namely Lavender is a very good insecticide that destroys all the insects that harm your crops. So, Lavender can be planted in the borders of your garden. You can plant the Lavender during spring or fall and its appearance is that of a flower with stems that are long as well as green leaves that are very narrow.

Although, Lavender gives a very pleasing smell for the human beings, the garden pests hate that smell. So, it becomes the perfect choice for an insecticide. Also, you can use the dried lavender in your cupboards or drawers to drive away all the moths and other insects that damage clothes and important papers.

The other natural insecticide is Basil. The scent of Basil as well as the oil that comes out of it irritates the flying insects, and people suggest having a pot of Basil in your kitchen as well.

The harvesting process of Basil leaves should be done when they are young. Certain traditional medicine are also said to be made up of Basil and it has a lot of other uses like antibacterial properties.

Sweet basil is a herb that can be used as an insecticide. You can plant the sweet basil in any area of your garden and it is said to have a very good appearance as well.

The sweet basil oil has got medicinal value and has antibacterial properties and it is used mainly to drive away flying insects. You can use the chive directly from your garden, or you can let it dry out and use it in your cooking. Nowadays, sweet basil is very popularly used in organic gardens.

The dish soap is another very good natural insecticide used in organic gardens today. If something drastic happens you always can use a natural remedy to rectify the issue.

Larger gardens should use containers that are appended to the garden hoses. A mixture of insecticides can be sprayed at least once a week in the garden. However, before doing anything the best thing to do is to thoroughly research what you are using.

Most of you want to head into organic gardening nowadays. The usage of chemicals in your garden can harm the environment and the organic gardeners understand this and do not encourage the use of chemicals in the gardens. If you have a nutrient rich soil, there is no need of using chemicals, and this is the prime area organic gardening concentrates on.

An organic content rich soil would be more moist, fertile, as well as airy. So, when the soil has such features, the crops would grow very well and it would be very healthy.

Some microorganisms as well as earthworms come out of this organic content thus ensuring the soil has enough nutrients and bacteria that are healthy and useful for the crops to grow well. Such organisms help the roots grow long enough so that it reaches the nutrients and water for the plants to grow well.

Since the organic gardeners mainly concentrate on soil, sun, as well as water, and chemicals are not their concern; their work becomes so much easier. The correct way of using compost manure is very important in order to increase the nutrient content of the soil for it to grow good crops.

You can make compost manure using several techniques in your house itself. You can use leaves, some waste in the kitchen, as well as waste in your home for the compost manure and let it decompose and molder in a pit or a bin. The finest compost is made up of equal proportions of green and soft content as well as hard and brown content.

You can put this mixture in a side or in a bin that has a lid and an open bottom. Such a bottom opening is for the organic gardeners to spread the decayed and decomposed compost and to let the rest of it to continue to decompose.

You must add in some already decomposed content into the new waste pile. Such a step helps in the process to become faster rather than waiting for the waste that you have to decay in a natural manner. Such already decomposed waste is called compost starter and can be got online or in any gardening store.

When you purchase the compost starter from a shop, the decomposing procedure gets faster since it has more nutrients and enzymes. When you use hard and brown waste such as wood or wood scraps, it would work out to be very good for the soil. You should scatter the compost starter on top of the compost pile in order to speed up the decomposing procedure.

Most of you would prefer the usage of compost manure over the rest because it works out to be inexpensive and also you can make sure that there are no chemicals added to it, so the product can be intaken by a child, an adult, or an elderly person.

Why does a person want to go for organic gardening?

1. The waste available in the garden can be easily converted into compost although it takes time it is better than purchasing chemical pesticides and fertilizers and also saves the environment as the garbage is used effectively.

2. As there are no chemicals added in the Organic farming method, it does not cause any harm to your health mainly when vegetables are grown. Although the chemical companies assures us that the chemicals they use are safe if we follow the instructions on the pack, but surveys taken prove that even a small amount of poison sucked by the skin can cause dreadful disease like cancer mainly in children.

Approximately, a child can absorb four to five times excess of cancer-causing pesticides than an adult from the foods consumed, which can also cause various other diseases in the child’s life in the long run. When Organic gardening is done these factors can be avoided to some extent.

Keep in mind, that these pesticides have toxins that are meant to kill all living things.

Organic farming also saves the environment where as the poison in the pesticides are drained into the waterways thereby killing the fishes in that area by polluting their surroundings.

3. Approximately about 30-32 billion tons of soil is found to erode from United States farm lands each year according to The Soil Conservation service. The practice of Organic helps to prevent such loss of the top soil.

4. As most of the recipes for organic farming are directly from the kitchen cupboard, it is not necessary to purchase expensive chemical fertilizers and pesticides. There are chances of other plants which also can be grown along with the main crop like the marigold which helps to push back aphids from vegetables.

To prepare a cheap homemade pesticide one can mix 1 tablespoon of liquid dishwashing soap and I cup of cooking oil. To 1 quart of water add 3 tablespoon of this mixture and spray them on the plants to avoid pests.

5. To curtail the growth of weeds in the garden and to retain the moisture a covering of pine needles will be of great help.

6. To maintain a safe and healthy environment for the future generations to lead a happy life. Organic gardening is the best method of gardening.
